Observe World Day of the Poor by Supporting the Collection for the Bishops’ Anti-poverty Program

Sunday, November 19 marks the seventh annual World Day of the Poor, a celebration that Pope Francis describes in his message for this year’s celebration as “a fruitful sign of the Father’s mercy” that “enables us to discover ever anew the heart of the Gospel.” In conjunction with this worldwide observance, dioceses across the country will be taking up a special collection to support the work of the U.S. bishops’ anti-poverty efforts.

For over 50 years, the United States Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has helped low-income people across the country address the root causes of poverty in their own communities. From bringing together community members, local government officials and business leaders to improve job training and educational opportunities to helping parishes welcome and support immigrants, CCHD-supported programs are making a difference at the grassroots level in cities and rural areas from coast to coast.
