Candy, Pretzels, and Schnitzel

Candy, Pretzels, and Schnitzel

That was the Order of the Day as our parish seniors gathered to celebrate Fall. The guests became Senior Olympians as they traveled down a row of eight challenging carnival games – rings and beans bags to toss at targets, golf and ping pong balls to putt and drop, and candy to collect at every station. Depending upon their prowess, Olympians earned various tiny prizes that their inner child could cherish.

A very special treat was the fresh baked pretzels and cheese sauce provided by Karinna and Angelica from Atria Senior Living. Yum!

Following the pledge and grace, led by Art, there was a moment of silence to remember the souls lost in the recent hurricanes. Then, it was on to the Oktoberfest buffet – mouthwatering chicken schnitzel served with tasty bratwurst, sauerkraut, and potato salad.

After dessert, a special relay race took place – Senior Break Shopping! Each table provided a participant who selected a Senior mobility device that would typically be used after a fall – cane, crutch, walker or wheelchair – to help them down the aisle to fill a shopping bag and return to the start. Enthusiastic Miguel and Ed both jumped the gun, as Maureen was encouraging the crowd to yell, “Go, go, go!” Although a tight race at first, the Grey team pulled ahead and procured more items, becoming Olympic Champions!

Next month is our sit down Thanksgiving banquet with limited seating. The French Gourmet will provide a full turkey dinner served by our volunteers. The cost will be $15 per person and only 80 guests will be served. So, be sure to sign up in the narthex beginning Nov. 10th.
